Hello! I’m a Biostatistician for Duke University. I work with non-Statisticians and teach them about the crazy world of Statistics! I have a MS in Biostatistics and a MS in Genetics.

Statistics is hard. And, in many cases, our academic systems just expect us to pick it up as we go. But, realistically, that doesn’t happen.

Statistics is hard. And, in many cases, our academic systems just expect us to pick it up as we go. But, realistically, that doesn’t happen.

When I was in a PhD program for Genetics, I had no stats experience and was lost trying a DIY approach. I spent so long collecting my data, and I didn’t want to mess it up in the analysis step! But I also didn’t have the stats resources that I needed. After I lost funding in my 4th year of grad school, I went back to grad school (yes, I’m crazy) for Biostatistics. Now, I help others who are stuck on their research and classes.

Biotatistics/Epi tutoring: I worked an in-person tutor and TA for 7+ years. My teaching style is very auditory. You have the textbook, if you only learned from reading it and memorizing it, you wouldn’t need me. The study approach for Statistics is different than many other subjects – I teach how to approach the problems and how to study on your own. My goal is to quickly work myself out of a job.

Research Consulting: I have helped 11 graduate students earn their PhDs! I’ve also helped many new MDs with their first research papers. This is my day job and I love it! Some graduate students have great departmental support available to them for their dissertation research, but many don’t. This is where I come in. Yes, I will (if there are no ethical concerns!) do your statistics for you. But, as I do it, I will make sure that you understand what I am doing and why I am doing. Or, I can be your ‘back seat driver’ as you work on your data. I can help with all stages of the research process – development, analysis plan / figuring out which stats to use, the actual analysis, and writing reports/dissertations/manuscripts.

THE tutor for SAS, epi, and more

I'm so grateful to have connected with Rebecca for tutoring. She is helping with my graduate MPH epi/bio-stats course, which involves epidemiology, bio-statistics, and SAS - she does it all! She's kind, thorough, sooooo knowledgeable, and magically made everything simple. I have never had a tutoring session where, at the end of it, I felt energized, excited, and motivated - and that's how working with Rebecca makes me feel. I have a math learning disability so for her to make this information easy to digest is a testament to her skill. I've already referred a classmate to her and highly recommend her for epi, stats/bio-stats, and SAS.

Very good and knowledgeable tutor

Learned so much from me lesson with Rebecca and she generously gave me more of her time than we had intended on needing. She was extremely knowledgeable about what I was trying to get done. Thank you.
