I am a former teacher, principal and college professor who has the patience and compassion to work with students at their own pace. I have an undergraduate and graduate degree in Education, in particular, Montessori Education, which encourages students to indivualize their learning. I also work on the notion that students can develop a love of learning and intrinsic motivation to keep them focused on the goals set early in the tutoring sessions.
I work very well with Elementary-age, middle school and even high school students who need encouragement, support, and tips and improving test scores and grades. I teach students how to become organized and how to prioritize assignments/projects. I teach study skills and take the time to encourage good study habits.
I had to refresh my pre algebra skills while taking several entrance exams for undergraduate and graduate school.
I have a natural interest in biology and understand how to explain these concepts with hands-on methods, such as building 3-D models.
Spanish was my first language, but I mastered English in Kindergarten, so I can switch back and forth between languages with the correct pronunciation.
I have been in Toastmasters for the last three years and I have improved my public speaking ability tremendously.
PSAT work is the basis of all high school Standardized Testing and college entrance exams. I have a strong math and language skill set and I also know how to teach test taking skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a masters degree in Early Childhood Education. I have taught at the elementary school level since 1991 (25 years). I have been a teacher, a principal, and a college professor who taught subjects pertaining to class management and development of the elementary school level. I enjoy seeing the enormous social, emotional and intellectual progress of students of the age range.
I have been an active member of Toastmasters International for three years and I have put into practice the skills for effective public speaking. I have improved my public speaking organization, preparation and visualization techniques. I can teach these skills and tools to others.
