I’m Andrea! I have a master’s in teaching; grades K-6. I taught at a Leader In Me Lighthouse school that specializes in teaching The 7 Habits for Happy Kids, a program designed to teach 21st-century leadership skills to all grade levels. I taught 1st grade for four years, 4th and 5th grade for a year, and tutored students k-5. I worked at a Title I school, a high-needs school with students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I have lots of experience supporting students who benefit from 1 on 1 instruction or a small group setting. Specifically but not limited to, students who are below grade level, special needs students, and students with learning disabilities. I hold of my students to a high standard. I strive to help every child reach their fullest potential despite any obstacles they may face.

I taught 1st-grade math for four years, 4th and 5th-grade math for a year. I worked with the NC Department of Education to rewrite the national math curriculum for 1st grade. I designed lessons, educational games, and student and parent support materials. I trained fellow teachers on the most up-to-date, best mathematical practices to use in the classroom to optimize student growth for all learners.

I taught Science for 5 years, worked as an instructor at a STEM camp for students who needed more support, and ran the science club for the first-grade students at my school.

ELA teacher for 5 years, specializing in the guided reading and word study. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Ran the news station at my school, helping students with public speaking script writing, broadcast operation, and video editing.

As a teacher I have two main goals, to help my students fall in love with learning and to give them skills that they’ll carry with them long after our time together. I’m a firm believer that learning should be fun! It’s my job to create engaging, hands on, individualized lessons that will leave a lasting impression.
