About Leslie

I love teaching because it opens doors for students. Education makes up the foundation and building blocks that empower students to learn what they love and help them succeed. Whether it's expressing yourself in writing, in front of group, or with movement, I want to help you learn how to share your ideas in the best ways you can.

IN THE CLASSROOM: taught literacy classes, including reading and writing, for adult students who wanted to earn their GED but did not yet know how to read well enough to start classes. Using constructivist teaching, I helped students graduate from my classroom and ultimately earn their GED certificates.

ON THE FIELD: I've also worked with several professional organizations to help them develop marketing and fundraising strategies for their organizations. I've designed digital communications strategies and fundraising/corporate sponsorship programs from scratch, helping organizations more than double their online web traffic and raise more than $60,000. If you're wanting to learn how to market your organization, let me share some of my techniques with you!

IN THE STUDIO: Dance is my lifelong love. I've multiple dance classes, including ballet, jazz, hip hop and "just want to dance", for beginning and intermediate students, for three years, and I have nearly 20 years of training. I love watching my students who've never learned how to keep a rhythm gradually learn techniques and different steps and ultimately leave the studio with a newfound love for dance and way to express themselves.

Whether it's from your brain or your body, there's no such thing as a bad question to me. If you're asking questions, you're eager to learn, which means I want to help!

As a bookworm and communicator at heart, I can help you reach your English and writing goals. I've been writing for more than 10 years as a reporter, multimedia producer, content marketer and communications specialist. I've been published in multiple newspapers, blogs, and even in academic journals. I can help you learn how to break down your ideas, create a structure and find the right words to effectively communicate what you want to say.

I've also worked as an outreach specialist and nonprofit fundraising for more than five years, speaking at everything from 1,000+-person events to small, 15-person presentations. I can help you learn how to present your ideas to any size group and how to engage your audience.

As a marketing and communications professional, I've helped companies, governmental organizations, nonprofits, and others help their brand grow. I’ve redesigned multiple websites, designed digital strategy that increased web traffic over 100 percent, launched multiple online newsletters, and created multimedia content, including videos, articles, and whitepapers. I’ve also developed relationships with media partners to promote content and to educate the public and key stakeholders.

Ballet is one of my lifelong loves. I taught ballet, jazz, hip hop and "just want to dance" classes for three years at the University of Virginia, and I danced competitively for just under 20 years. Let's move together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I have nearly 20 years of competitive dance experience. During this time, my competitive teams won multiple gold and platinum awards, as well as a national title for Pom dance. I also taught at the University of Virginia as a ballet, jazz, and "just want to dance" teacher for three years.

Public Speaking

I have a Masters degree in Public Administration, which taught me how to communicate with groups of all sizes for the benefit of public good. As an outreach specialist, I worked with more than 200 employers in the Tucson region, representing more than 150,000 employees, to develop alternative transportation options, including multiple presentations and training programs. Additionally, as an active member in several nonprofits, I've engaged with the community as a fundraising spokesperson and have spoken at multiple events ranging in size from the 1,000+ person Take Back the Night events I organized to the 15+ presentations I've shared for nonprofit corporate sponsorship fundraising.
