My name is Michelle. I have been teaching for over 10 years. My experience includes 3.5 years of teaching in South Korea and 7 years as a teacher and professional tutor in the Charlotte area. I have spent countless hours tutoring students in reading, grammar, literature, writing, social studies and history; I am also a licensed and experienced English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. Through my tutoring endeavors, I have become incredibly adept at teaching the skills and strategies required to succeed on the SAT, ACT, ISEE, and TOEFL exams.
Aside from the knowledge that I have attained through the years, I also retain a tremendous passion for helping learners to grow and to overcome academic challenges. It is my steadfast belief that any student can succeed. It is often the methods of instruction and the guiding pedagogy in classrooms that impede the progress of learners. As such, I strive to build strong relationships with my students, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and develop lessons and strategies that are unique to my students' needs. I believe that flexibility and patience are key elements for success, and I tirelessly strive to find that perfect methods to achieve success for each student's achievement. All students can learn, and every student can succeed with the right support system and strategies in place.
I have spent countless years tutoring TOEFL and ESL students, and I have spent 7 years as a certified English Language Arts teacher in North Carolina. Through professional tutoring companies and multiple training sessions and hours spent in practice, I have become adept in preparing students for both the SAT and ACT Reading, English, Essay, and Science portions. I have additional training I. SATII Literature and AP EXAMS for US History, European History, Art History, American History, and English Language and Composition.
It is my strong belief that students deserve a tutor who is willing to provide individualized, specific instruction to succeed. So, I encourage students and parents to contact me to schedule a meet and greet and diagnostic test so that we can devise the perfect program. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
