About John

Throughout my academic career the way I have learned best has been through teaching others the material we were tested on. I spent the first few years of my undergrad struggling to determine the best study method for myself and I learned many different approaches during that time. When the right one finally clicked I began to succeed at every class I took. I made deans list the last 4 semesters of college and when I began my graduate studies I immediately distinguished myself as one of the top students in my cohort.

I specialize in tutoring math, biology, anatomy, fitness and guitar among other related subjects. For the last year I have been a teaching assistant at UNCC and have helped college undergraduates in physiology and anatomy.

One of my main goals as a tutor is to empower my students and help them adopt a love of learning as well as a hard work ethic. I am generally available for tutoring every day from 9am to 9 pm and can travel to students or meet with them in a specified location. My base rate is $35/hour.

In my field (Kinesiology/fitness) it is important to determine a lot about a subject and their fitness level. To do this correctly and proficiently we perform many metabolic equations which utilize many different algebra concepts. Additionally I utilize algebra when grading and tutoring other subjects.

For the last year I have spent a lot of time one on one with students who have struggled with both anatomy and biology. I frequently meet with and tutoring students in an applied anatomy course at UNCC which covers musculoskeletal anatomy in depth. Additionally I nearly finished a biology minor during my undergraduate studies and have continued my expand my education by taking graduate level biology course as electives during my time at UNCC.

I have been playing guitar for 8+ years. I have never taken a lesson but rather have taught myself. While I might not know a lot of classical guitar I know some good tricks for learning how to form chords and play rhythm guitar as I was a worship leader for 4 years during my time at Wake Forest.

I have always been interested in fitness hence my degree in Health and Exercise Science. I ran track and field during high school and have been a runner my whole life. I believe that there is no one size fits all formula for fitness and that each person requires a specific protocol in order to succeed.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you succeed in your academic career.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

During my undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University I was a member of InterVarsity Christian fellowship. For two years I was a small group leader and lead bible studies each week.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science, am a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and am currently pursing my Master's in Kinesiology.

Track & Field

During my time in high school I ran varsity track and field all 4 years. My main events were the intermediate hurdles, the 400 m and 800 m relay.

During my time at Wake Forest I worked with the women's Division 1 volleyball team for two years. My work included taking stats, setting up drills, assisting coaches when needed and filling in as a player when necessary.
