I am an Elementary school teacher with 3 years of experience with Common Core State Standards and the North Carolina Science and Social Studies Essential Standards. I am educated and trained with implementing interventions for reading, phonics, number sense, and visualization concerning math instruction. I advocate for whole brain teaching and finding ways to care the student as a whole. I'm a believer in growth monitoring to build a child's confidence, awareness, and love for learning.
I specialize in proofreading, grammar, vocabulary, context clues, synonyms, antonymous, reading and analyzing poetry, nonfiction, and fiction texts.
I engage NY math strategies, manipulative based approaches, bridging reading comprehension with math comprehension, phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Third year teaching at the elementary level in K-3. I have worked as a third grade tutor at Socrates Academy teaching comprehension strategies to struggling readers. I teach first grade full-time, where I utilize the workshop model in reading, writing, and math instruction along with the Jan Richardson approach to Guided Reading, Engage NY, and Singapore math curriculum.
Currently a first grade teacher who uses leveled phonics awareness to instruct students starting with beginning sounds, moving to blends & digraphs, controlled -r, CVCE, and multi-syllabic words. I tutor by using pictures, word cards, word scrambles, phonemic awareness games, and fluency strips. I believe in modeling, practicing, and scaffolding instruction.
