I have a passion for helping others reach their absolute best potential and it is my desire that you come out of your sessions feeling confident about what you have learned and how to apply it. I have a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology which gives me a specifically unique knowledge base and expertise that will inform and support your language needs. I have given language therapy to an array of culturally and linguistically diverse children and adults on the east coast.
As a New York native, I have a level of cultural competence that allows me to help and understand people from different cultures and why they may be experiencing difficulties applying language skills. I also have experience working with special needs children with diagnosed disorders such as Autism, Aspergers Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, Specific Language Impairment, etc. My job is not done until you see improvement in performance and assessment grades.
I specialize in English, language arts, literature, reading, writing, vocabulary, language/reading comprehension etc. and making sure that you are learning based on the Common Core State Standards. I can work directly with homework assignments or provide you with resources to enhance any skills that are necessary. I will come prepared to work on whatever I feel you need however, your sessions will be conducted to comply with YOUR needs first. I aim to challenge my students and keep them engaged through a fun, pressure-free learning style.
I hold myself to a high standard and will be accountable for how productive you feel your session has been. Therefore, I will often ask for feedback and I will never bill for a session in which you are not completely satisfied with my lesson. I try to be flexible with time and only request a cancellation notice 5 hours prior to the session. Make-up sessions can be provided if needed.
Your learning experience with me will be unique compared to a standard teacher because I not only possess the knowledge to help with your struggles, but my background as a Speech Language Pathologist allows me to identify the root of your language skills that are causing difficulties in achieving academic success. I can assist you in mastering your academic goals by focusing on language and related cognitive underpinnings by analyzing your grade-level expectations and taking a diagnostic-prescriptive approach that will stem from my clinical knowledge. I will profile your strengths and weaknesses with the context of classroom performance and address them specifically in tutoring sessions.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For over 3 years I have worked in facilities with children 2-18 who have been diagnosed with Autism and on the spectrum for Aspergers. I developed and coordinated individualized academic, behavioral and social programs for these children and worked closely with ABA therapists. I also hold a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology and have received extensive education on 'red flags' of Autism Spectrum Disorders and how to appropriately treat language delays or disorders that may be present as a result of being on the spectrum.

I have extensive education about how dyslexia specifically affects spelling, reading, and/or writing words.
