Hello, my name is Tom C! I am retired now after working over 25 years in the field of education. I was a teacher for half of my years in education; the other half I was an administrator. I graduated from college with a degree in Liberal Arts majoring in history. I have been a history buff all my life, and I have not stopped learning about the past. My favorite tv show is "Meet the Press." I have a master's degree in school administration.
I have taught a variety of subjects on the high school and middle grades level. My favorite subject area is history, but I like teaching reading and math too. I love to read, mostly non-fiction, but I like fiction too. I love learning and I love helping others learn- nothing could be more satisfying to me.
For years I helped high school students that did not pass the North Carolina Competency Test in math to pass it. Learning math is a struggle at times for all students, embracing this fact is a predominant key in being successful in order to successfully do math problems- it's like being a detective.
I have always said that reading is the most important subject. Everyone can learn to love to read. I know how to help young people increase their reading skills and develop a greater appreciation for reading.
I was a highly effective educator for over 25 years. I spent half my career on the high school/middle school level and half on the elementary school level. I have tutored students from pre-K to 12 grade. I am skilled at helping students learn based on their own learning styles. I believe learning can be fun!
I have experience teaching history at the high school level, and middle school level. I have taught honors and regular Government/Economics, honors and regular World History, World Geography, Psychology, US History, North Carolina History, and Middle East/Northern Africa/Asian history. The students I taught always performed above the state average.
Learning should be fun, and I can help you realize that for yourself. Thomas Edison said, "Work is more fun than fun!" Would it not be wonderful to have this experience? Hello, my name is Tom C! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
