In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. As an elementary Special Education Teacher, I worked with students in all subjects. My emphasis was on reading, writing, and math but I also taught science and social studies. Recently I received my MAT in TESOL or teaching English to students of other languages. I have been selected as a NEH and NCCAT scholar.
