University of North Carolina at Charlotte (English)
Hello! Thank you for visiting my tutoring page. I have never tutored before, but I have been an instructor of group fitness for two years and have worked with children in various childcare jobs over the years. Now I am here to combine the two!
Ever since I was little, I wanted to write. I remember telling all of my teachers through Elementary school, starting from Kindergarten, that I would give them a signed copy of my first book. I thrived in all of my Language Arts classes through grade school. In high school I was an Editor of our award-winning yearbook, where I specifically directed a section that had to do with people interest stories. Once I got to college, I took a couple of misguided paths through various majors until I finally ended up at my calling: English. I am currently enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The concentration of my major is in Language and Digital Technology, which I plan on using as background knowledge to pursue a Master's Degree in Technical Writing.
As a group fitness instructor, I understand the importance of teaching at the level of my students. I know that each person has different learning styles and ways of understanding different concepts. I take great pride that I am able to teach people in the health and fitness industry so that they can take what I teach them and integrate it into their personal lives for long term growth. So, even though I have not tutored before, I know that I can take this concept and apply it as as an academic tutor. I know I can do it, and I know I can do it well because I care about my students with interest, intelligence, and empathy.
A piece of advice from my English teacher that I incorporate into all of my writing is, "It's better to write simply than in extravagant metaphors: just write what you mean." When it comes to writing, I will help my students to understand that writing does not have to be difficult or confusing or romantic, but rather that simpler writing can better convey the message. I was known among my yearbook staff as an aggressive editor when proofreading. But really, I just have a proper understanding of how to word things! I love to read and then understand why the author wrote the novel the way he or she did, so that I can incorporate it into my own style to sharpen my personal writing and literature skills.
Please feel free to contact me about any questions! I look forward to having my first students soon. Thank you, and I hope you have a coffee-tastic day! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
