Johnson C. Smith University (Political Science)
Good morning, afternoon, and evening, y'all! My name is Ramon, and I am a senior student of Political Science at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. My passions include politics, history, and long walks on the beach; my talents, SAT Prep, writing (in both Spanish and English), and math.
I first became a tutor during my senior year of high school, giving SAT prep classes (reading, writing, and math) to large groups of students at a local non-profit. Since then, I have helped more than 50 students pass their SAT's with stellar outcomes. If I have learned anything these years, it is that the SAT is one of the most intimidating steps on a student's road to college, but with enough prep and dedication, anyone can attain a Yale-worthy score.
While in college, I have also served as a Teacher's Assistant of Political Science and a private Spanish tutor. As a person whose first language is not English, I understand the difficulties and perks of trying to learn a new language or of trying to fully control one you already know. Helping somebody write an essay or learn a new phrase is therefore a very satisfactory experience for me.
As I mentioned previously, I have 4 years of experience giving SAT Prep, both to single individuals and to large groups. Do not be deceived by my major; I know my math, and I know how to teach it well. I have all the right tools and knowledge to conquer the math section of the SAT.
I am a native-Spanish speaker fascinated with his own language. I was born and raised in Mexico, and even here in the U.S., I continued feeding my passion for Spanish and Latin American literature. I am in the process of obtaining a minor in Spanish, and for the past 3 years, I have worked as a private Spanish tutor for my fellow classmates.
Reading and writing are my passion, and my experience working as both a Teacher's Assistant and SAT Prep tutor have allowed me to develop a keen eye for grammar and writing syntax.
If you think I may be a good fit for you, do not hesitate to email or call me. Good morning, afternoon, and evening, y'all! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Starting my senior year and throughout my college freshman and sophomore years, I worked as a volunteer for College Access Para Todos (College Access For All), an initiative led by a Charlotte-based nonprofit aiming to give Latino students and families the resources necessary to go to college. During that time, I gave SAT Prep classes, courses on college readiness, and essay writing workshops. As the first one in my family to go to college, I have come to understand how intimidating the application process is. For this reason, I am passionate about helping others achieve their dreams, every step along the way.
I am currently an undergraduate student of Political Science in Charlotte's Johnson C. Smith University. I am currently starting my senior year, with my final goal being obtaining a PhD in Political Economy. I have served as a tutor in International Relations and Research Methodology classes, with my specialties being Political Theory, Macroeconomics, and state structures. During high school, I also tutored fellow classmates on AP US History and AP Government, allowing me to develop skills to accessibly explain the basic underpinnings of American government, as well as more complicated controversies and topics.
