I'm a historian, philosopher, and artist experienced in a wide variety of research, writing, and publishing work. With a firm belief in the liberal arts tradition, I've devoted my life to building a robust and complimentary knowledge set.
I have a B.A. in History and Philosophy from St. Lawrence University, Canton NY, & an M.A. in Journalism from the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY.
My primary interests lie in the Western Intellectual tradition, from Homer through Hume, and on. My Senior thesis focused on the history of tolerance and skepticism, particularly in the context of the French wars of religion throughout the 16th century. Reading the classics, medieval scholars, renaissance writers, and the authors of the new science—Descartes, Bacon, Newton, Locke—imbued a love of letters and eloquence, and propelled my graduate school study in journalism, in hope of carrying on their tradition in our contemporary context.
I work well with all ages, but specialize in advanced English instruction, research methods, design concepts, and photography composition and editing, with intermediate capabilities in interactive website coding.
In a slightly different role, I excell at setting up, integrating, and teaching individuals how to manage technology in our insane pace of progress. For example, I recently taught a lady in her late-70s how to edit the HTML on the website I recently built for her.
My specialty, however, is a type of empathetic communication: understanding the best way to convey information for one's specific mode of thinking.
There's a niche for clever, critical, and expository writing, and I'm still looking for it. In the meantime, I'd be happy to share my passion for history, literature, writing, photography, and all forms of knowledge and trade. Please let me know if I can help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
