I have a Master's of Elementary Education. I have worked with preschool and kindergarten aged children for 26 years. I specialized in one-on-one and small group teaching. During small group, I help children learn how to properly socialize with each other, focusing on communication skills and manners. Since the United States has started to push science and technology there has been a decline in fine motor, literacy, and simple math skills.
My focus with young children is using fun and excitement to increase basic literacy and math skills. Implementing other manipulatives for literacy allows for improving fine motor skills while focusing on the others being studied. I use the library as a tutoring space so that there is a large variety of picture books for younger learners. I have a Master's of Elementary Education. Melanie has been working with my 8 year old son for a few weeks and he loves her way of teaching and I love how patient she is with him. He is a smart kid and she makes him work to his potential. Since she has started sessions with him he has gone up a full level in his reading! I have tried other tutors and Melanie was a good fit for my son. She makes learning fun for my baby. She is always on time and prepared with books, games and new topics to challenge him. I would totally recommend her she is worth every penny!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Phonics is important. It helps children learn how to phonetically pronounce and spell words correctly. They will learn to hear beginning, middle, and ending sounds, which will lessen inventive spelling. In early childhood, children learn phonic sounds through teacher-directed play. As an early childhood educator, I taught phonics through listening bingo games, having children write their own picture stories, and reading Dr. Seuss books. As a follow through we would create a "Word Wall" using the words that the preschoolers had mastered, which reinforced the phonics of the words. As a tutor, I will be able to focus directly with the student's short-comings. I will guide them in their decoding skills and focus on self-esteem directives to help them practice on their own.
