About Lauryn

My name is Lauryn and I have been teaching for about 3 years now. I have always wanted to become a teacher and did volunteer work throughout high school and college to help students in need. I volunteered to coach girls softball for recreation as well as working for a grocery store and managing the care center for little ones.

I went to UNC Charlotte and graduated with a degree in both special education and elementary education. I first taught 5th grade for two years and now I teach students with special needs. I absolutely love teaching those students and having them feeling successful.

I always tell my students that education can never be taken away from them, what is theirs is theirs forever. It just depends what they want to do with that education to grow.
I'd love to help your student become successful and watch them love to learn!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education K-6. I taught 5th grade for two years with most of my children having a diagnosis of a ADHD and ADD. I am able to get those children focused by incorporating engaging lessons and activities to help children learn.

Common Core

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education K-6. I taught 5th grade for two years that was common core curriculum. I taught students Math and ELA using the common core standards.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education K-6. I taught 5th grade for two years with most of my children having a diagnosis of a special need. In my third year, I am teaching EC resource that helps those students that are below grade level due to disabilities to give them extra time in small group to help prepare them and succeed in the general education setting.

Handwriting

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education K-6. I taught 5th grade for two years with most of my children having a diagnosis of a special need. I am now teaching special education in the resource room helping children succeed with their disabilities from ADD, ADHD, a specific learning disability, autism or traumatic brain injury.

During this EC resource time, I work with students that receive occupational therapy to work on fine motor skills such as hand writing. We work on proper spacing, how to write letters correctly and sentence structure. I am also going to school to become an occupational therapist.

Phonics

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary and special education K-6. I taught 5th grade for two years with most of my children having a diagnosis of a special need. I am now teaching special education in the resource room helping children succeed with their disabilities from ADD, ADHD, a specific learning disability, autism or traumatic brain injury. Some of these students that are in 3rd or 4th grade need basic phonics skills to help them become better readers. They come to me to practice those skills and to learn different decoding skills.
