About LeKida

I learned American Sign Language at the age of 8 years old. I have 3 degrees an AA in American Sign Language as well as a BA in Deaf Studies.

I have taught American Sign Language for more than 25 years and interpreted for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for 15 years. I was a college professor teaching ASL 1 and 2 as well as creative ASL.

I homeschooled my own 6 children and later became a public school paraeducator, and later a Special Education Instructor.

I also have experience in regular education for the Elementary and Middle School ages.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

I possess and AA in American Sign Language as well as a BA degree in Deaf Studies and have worked with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for more than 25 years.

I have taught in public private and religious settings for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population as well as provided interpretation for these institutions.

I have worked as an interpreter to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for more than 20 years in both the medical and educational arena.

I provide interpretation for religious and entertainment sectors as well which cater to and provide services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumer.

I taught college as an adjunct instructor for 7 years as an instructor of American Sign Language to Hearing, deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Reading

I have experience in remedial reading instruction.

Sign Language

I learned American Sign Language as A child and majored in it in a High School and College.
I possess near native competence in this area and am a part of the Deaf and hard of hearing community.
I have an Associate of Arts degree in American Sign Language and a B.A. Degree in Deaf Studies as well.
I have more than 20 years experience as an Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
I was employed as an adjunct Sign Language instructor for 7 years.

Special Needs

I am an experienced Special Education Instructor and have worked in the field for more than 10 years.

I worked as and Early Interventionist for 4 of those years assisting parents of infants that were diagnosed in infancy and pre Kindergarten. I worked in home and on site with the parents and family members in bridging the developmental gaps as much as possible before the child entered preschool.

I also worked in Special Ed classrooms within public and private schools with this population of students as a ParaEducator and subsequently a lead instructor.

Currently I provide tutoring and ABA support to students on the Autism Spectrum and am a parent of an adult who is also on the Spectrum with a diagnosis of IDD.

Track & Field

I was a track athlete from middle school through college.
I attended college as a collegiate athlete on a track and field scholarship. My areas of participation were sprints: 100, 220, 400 yard dashes as well as lead and anchor legs of sprint relays.
I have coached privately and publicly for approximately 15 years.
