All throughout my life, I have always excelled at reading. I firmly believe that reading and writing proficiently is crucial to survival in the real world. In college, I majored in English at Johnson C Smith University. I graduated with a BA from that university in 2000. In 2002, I graduated with an MA in African American studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a concentration in literature. After graduate school, in 2005, I started teaching in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. Seeking to further my my expertise as a teacher, I received a second Master's in Education from Gardner Webb University in 2012. At this time I am still employed as a middle school language arts teacher at a public school in Charlotte.
I offer tutoring in middle and secondary English and Language Arts, as well as social studies and history subjects. I also offer writing assistance and proofreading for academic papers. My goal is to be flexible to meet the needs of all students, but due to my status as a teacher I can usually tutor public school students from 4 to 8 pm, and home schooled students on the weekends.
I am very committed to my students' success in the classroom, and it is my personal mission to make sure you or your student is successful in your academic endeavors as well. I favor a hands on approach to learning, with the utmost attention to detail and understanding.
I can provide documentation regarding my academic and professional experience upon request. Thank you for your time and consideration! Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
