Helping students improve their grades by helping them find and correct mistakes that could cost them points on their papers is something that I enjoy doing. When a student understands an assignment, I enjoy the excitement and relief that they experience. I love to help students succeed and realize that they can understand English grammar.
I currently tutor college-level English and essay writing and high school English, literature and essay writing. In addition, I teach English, writing, reading, spelling, vocabulary, literature, history, science, and math to middle and high school students on a daily basis, and I have several years experience teaching those same subjects in elementary classrooms. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary education, and I taught second grade for five years, and fifth grade for two years. In addition to those classes, I taught sixth grade history and seventh grade study skills. I currently tutor elementary students in English and writing, and I also teach all subject areas to a sixth grader.

I began playing the piano as a child, and I continued to take lessons in college and for a short time as an adult. I have participated in music competitions, music evaluations, and ministered in churches by playing the piano since I was young. Learning to play the piano is a skill that can enhance anyone's life.

I teach reading by teaching phonics and helping students master sight words. Learning vowels, consonants, and blends to assist in word recognition is just one part of learning to read. Reading comprehension skills are also essential from the literal recall of facts to the higher level skills of interpretation, inferential comprehension, appreciation, and critical thinking.
I help my students improve their work by encouraging them to study better. I taught a class entitled study skills to seventh graders in the past, and I work to help all of my students stay organized. Learning how to study is essential for success in school.
Over the years I assisted many students with the steps of writing. Prewriting, writing the thesis statement, writing the rough draft, revising, proofreading, and publishing are all steps that are involved in the completion of a quality paper. I have taught students from young children to adults how to write different types of writing projects including research papers, persuasive writing, stories, biographies, letter writing, how-to essays, and informational essays.
