I love to read and write and to share unique tips on making both fun and easy. My many years of certified teaching experience include grades 3 and 5, as well as Language Arts/English grades 6, 7, and 8, and social studies grades 6 and 7. I'm also an experienced tutor of grades 3-11. My tutoring methods start with talking and listening to your goals and concerns, followed by assessment and individualized instruction based on what you and I decide are your tutoring goals. Students I tutor achieve high growth on reading and writing tests. I am Orton-Gillingham Phonics and Project Read trained, which means I can help you figure out how to identify and pronounce new words and that I have systems in place to help you read and write well. I am also a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant who has presented nationally, regionally, and locally at teacher workshops. That means I believe that the best teachers of reading read and the best teachers of writing write. I look forward to doing both with you.
I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with students. I am always researching to find new materials and methods to help you learn. In more than one family I have tutored several children, so parents are pleased with the results their children achieve. I usually tutor at your house or at mine, although the public library or a place such as Starbucks are other good choices. I am available to meet after school or on weekends and throughout the summer.
Let's talk soon so that we don't waste any time getting started. I look forward to our time together.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
