About Claytonia

My name is Claytonia W., and I have years of experience in a wide range of math and science. I have owned my own business for the last 12 years in Charlotte NC. I have been involved in all aspects of the company, including marketing, web design and operations.

My expertise is in math and science. I was a pre-med student at the undergraduate level where I received a degree in Biology, and I earned an MBA in Marketing. For the past three years, I have served as a math tutor and math teacher at the local community college. Further, I have worked at the local community college as a math instructor for their SAT Prep course for the past year. Additionally, I have worked in various tutoring programs in Charlotte serving students in math from the elementary level through college!

In addition to my formal experience, I am also the parent of a homeschooled student! I have been working with other homeschool families, as well as my own, creating and overseeing their math curriculum and administering the end-of-year tests. I am authorized to administer the Iowa test and the Stanford test.

In addition to teaching math, I have lots of experience teaching the usage of the TI-83 and TI-84 graphing calculators. If you are using one of these calculators for a course, come see me to learn how to maximize the benefit of the calculator; especially for Statistics!

Through my years of teaching and tutoring, I have developed many effective techniques to help students excel in math. Having worked with students ranging in ages from 5-85 (really!), I have been exposed to a wide range of levels and backgrounds. I have a unique way of making the students feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident in their abilities. Tutoring really is a joy for me because I enjoy being a part of those "lightbulb" moments and having the opportunity to help someone achieve his or her goals. I have worked with students that have self-proclaimed math anxiety, fear of math, and those that believe they just can't do math because it's not their thing. I have been able to assist them successfully and would love the opportunity to assist you as well! Please contact me to set up an appointment today!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have previously taught courses in Algebra 1 and thus have an indepth understanding of the material. I can help you with solving one and two step equations, graphing, writing equations, and any other concept that may be unclear. I have assisted countless students in their journey thru Alg. Help is only a phone call away!

Algebra 2

I have previously taught courses in Algebra 2 and thus have an in-depth understanding of the material. I can help you with solving one and two step equations, systems of equations, graphing, simplifying and solving rational expressions, radicals, writing equations, and any other concepts that may be unclear. I have assisted countless students with Algebra 2 and have made it a lot more enjoyable. Help is only a phone call away!

When taking Calculus in high school, I maintained an A the entire time, passed the AP exam and didn't have to take Calculus I in college. I can assist you with your understanding of this topic.

My undergraduate degree is in Biology because I was a Pre-Med student. Because of that, I also had to take lots of Chemistry. A lot of what is done in Chemistry is math based, so I have lots of techniques and tricks to make this content understandable. You may find it quit entertaining!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a lot of experience working with elementary students. My area of expertise is Math and Science, but I also have experience with Reading Comprehension. I have successfully prepared many students for the EOG test via an EOG boot camp that I created. I have practice tests and lots of strategies to help students become successful. They may even have some fun!

Elementary Math

For elementary math, I find that keeping the student engaged is as important as drills. I make tutoring fun by using games to help students learn the material. Fun games for multiplication facts, time, and other topics keep the student involved and looking forward to tutoring.

Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra generally consists of solving systems of linear equations, using matrices, and vectors. It is a bit more complex than what you may find in Algebra 2 and physics. It may include several variables at one time.

I have never worked as a marketing executive or in any job in that capacity. I do, however, hold a MBA degree with a Marketing concentration. I know and understand the basics of marketing and can help you data analysis in order to determine the best way to market. I can also assist with your coursework if you are pursuing a similar degree.

One of the most difficult concepts in Pre-Calculus is proving identities involving the trigonometric functions. I can help to simplify this process so that you understand how to get from point A to point B with ease. I can also help with evaluating and solving trigonometric functions and graphing. Knowing how to use the TI-83 and TI-84 is beneficial for this course as well and I can help with that also!

SAT Math

I am currently the math instructor for the SAT prep course at the local community college. I have lots of test taking strategies to help students gain confidence and increase their test scores. No matter what level of math you have taken, I can help you to maximize your score by teaching you techniques and strategies. You can improve by 50 points just from one strategy! Call me today!

I can make Statistics easy to understand. A lot of people find it difficult because they don't know why they are doing it. I help to put the course into perspective and help you to organize it logically in your mind. Additionally, if you have the TI-83 or TI-84 calculator (highly recommended for this course), I can help you with using it effectively for this course. I teach a calculator workshop at the community college for both calculators, so I have lots of experience with it.

The TEAS is the entrance exam for nursing programs that consists of sentence correction, sentence completion, reading, math and science. To be an effective in assisting with this exam, one must be well versed in multiple areas. As a Pre-med biology major, I can help you prepare for the science part, which is one of the most important parts. Additionally, with my math minor and years of experience teaching math at the community college, I can also help you prepare for the math portion. I am familiar with the layout of the test, the timing and the number of questions. Using official TEAS test prep material will ensure that you are reviewing the right material and at the right level.

Although I am not a nurse, in my job as a tutor with the community college, I have helped several students prepare for this exam. My expertise in standardized testing skills can surely help you to tackle this exam. Working together, you will be prepared to exceed your own expectations.

Trigonometry includes working with sin, cos, tan, and their inverses. This can be difficult for a lot of students, but I have helped turn that around for many people! I can show you ways to simplify the process of evaluating, solving, graphing, and proving identities.
