About Carlos

Teaching and Tutoring Experience

I have more than 15 years experience teaching and tutoring in Economics and Mathematics in Miami Florida and Guatemala

I work actually at Miami Dade College School of Business as Adjunct Faculty in Economics Teach Macroeconomics and Microeconomics courses to business students, advice students on areas of Study and provide career guidance to upperclassman business majors.
Also I taught for more than 10 years Applied Economics, Agricultural Economics and Mathematics at San Carlos University of Guatemala.

My tutoring method is explaining the student the economic theory with real life examples, the news reports and articles from the media. In the case of Math I use real life problems to solve numerical problems.

By teaching Economics I help form a solid foundation in student’s criteria to make decisions in politics, in their business or in their daily lives. By giving solid examples from the past, current and future I help students learn the concepts for both Macro and Micro Economics. Through macro economic I can teach the broad aspects of our life such as unemployment, inflation, tax system and government spending and also the economic issues in other countries that affect our lives. Through micro economics I teach students how to analyze specific units of the economy like business and households. Microeconomics is a powerful tool to make decisions for any business.

I teach by contrasting the economic theory with the current events that take place in society. Everyday there are events in our society that are related to economic matters and I make my students aware of those events and encourage them to raise questions and study those events to help them understand the influence that economics has across the nation and the world we live in. I teach putting the theory in contrast and comparison with the events that are occurring in our society along with the required curriculum. For example, when we see the business cycle (recessions and economic growth) I make the students analyze the events associated to the great recession of 2008 and what our government did in fiscal and monetary policy to deal with such recession.
The way I monitor my growth as an educator, is by giving effective feedback to students who ask questions about current economics events. Another way I evaluate my performance is asking my students at end of class to try to solve real life problems to see if they are more prepared to deal with them using the concepts covered in class. I also give assessments and I give students a descriptive feedback along with resources online that will help them improve their understanding of economic matters.
