A little bit about myself,

I am a 27 year old UCLA Biochemistry graduate who has been teaching and coaching math and science students for over seven years now. Above all else I believe in finding an outlet for one's creativity, and in learning the things that make people more effective in their everyday lives.

As a tutor I am successful because I truly understand where students get stuck during their thought process. I do not assume a student has prior knowledge of a subject, and do not ever pass judgement if a certain concept or skill has not been picked up along the way. I am friendly and very approachable and always encourage students to tell me exactly what they are thinking. I don't want to know what they don't understand, I want to know what steps they have taken right up to the point where they get stuck, so that we can adapt the thought process and move past the roadblock.

I also believe that while there many ways to solve problems, students are much better off learning the way is the most effective for the current issue at hand. For example, sometimes students will say "I like to do it this way," when working through an assignment. If it's not the most efficient way to do the exercise, or if it will make future concepts harder to learn, I show the student the more optimized way to do the problem, and tell them when and how it will help them in the future. If this means that I reveal a math shortcut a year early, that's okay with me!

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to schedule a lesson, or if you have any additional questions for me.

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” -Anton Chekhov. In addition to writing poetry and fiction, I enjoy collaborating with others on the process of their writing as well. I help students develop focus and clarity in their work, emphasizing that while there is no set formula for writing, it is possible to find and excel in one's own style.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

What can I say, I LOVE chemistry! It is a subject that most people dread when going through high school and college, but it comes to me more naturally than tying my shoes! As a tutor I show students the way that I see the world of chemistry, ultimately making a very abstract subject matter tangible for students to work with. Chemistry doesn't have to be hard and can actually be fun if taught the right way!

Chemistry Session

Cody was quick on scheduling, flexible, and did a great job tutoring Chemistry to my high school tenth grader. We have already scheduled our next session.

Great Chemistry tutoring

My daughter thought Cody was extremely helpful and patient. She felt he will be able to help her with some of the more challenging aspects of chemistry that she is struggling with.

Great Lesson!

Cody has been doing a great job helping my son with his Honors Math 3 class! He explains things in an easy-to-understand way and ensures that he can do the work before moving on. Very glad we found Cody!

Knowledgeable tutor

The relief on my son's face after 1 session with Cody was immeasurable. My son was frustrated with his teacher & not learning what he needed to know to excel in his class.

Debbie, 1 lesson with Cody

Son was very happy with his AP Chem review

Feedback from my son is that Cody was very thorough, worked at a just right pace, and obviously a STEMs expert. Cody was also very responsive and patient with my questions about his services.

Lolita, 1 lesson with Cody

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

This was the first session and it’s already helped clarify several concepts for tomorrow’s classroom test. Cody prepared session by reviewing materials for my current unit and was able to jump right in. Looking forward to next session.

Nana, 4 lessons with Cody

Great tutor

on time and my son really gets the information that Cody is teaching. I would recommend you have Cody help your child. The money is well worth it.

Richard, 9 lessons with Cody

Patient and Knowledgeable

Cody was patient and knowledgeable. He advised us to buy a study guide to work from which helped a great deal. He always responds to any questions I have and is accommodating with tutoring times.

Helene, 7 lessons with Cody

First meeting, a great start

The most important thing about a tutor outside of their expertise is the rapport between the tutor and the student. Cody was able to make a connection with my son right away and they quickly started on the first lesson to review ACT math. After the lesson my son said it went well, he feels confident that working with Cody and doing the "homework" he will be able to improve his ACT scores.
