I am a first grade teacher at an independent school. I have been named teacher of the year and just love teaching. I have experience with teaching children to read as a first grade teacher for 8 years. Teaching reading is so important to me. A child needs to have a passion and love for reading. A good reader needs to feel confident and learn how to pick a good book for their reading level. I would love to assess readers and fill the gaps that are preventing them to be a confident and passionate reader. I also love teaching math. I am currently rewriting our curriculum to be more individualized. I love the use of technology. In 2009 I finished a masters program in teaching and learning with technology. I love to provide practice opportunities on the computer. It is a good motivator. I just wrote a grant for the use of iPads in the classroom. I have also taught 3-5 grades. I am currently in my 21st year of teaching.
