In addition, I assist with clinical skills development including oral presentations, clinical interviewing, physical exam, write-ups, clinical reasoning and ECG interpretation. Because of my basic science background and long clinical experience, I see the whole human organism, from the sub-cellular level to the psychosocial environment and can help learners see how it all fits together.

I am a retired primary care internist. I was a teaching attending at the Duke School of Medicine's primary care clinic at the Durham VA for over 10 years and love one to one teaching. I hold a BA in Biological Sciences from Northwestern and MD from the University Chicago. In addition, I have extensive training in mediation and was a community mediator for four years which has enhanced my communication skills.

Learners come in all different levels, and all different ways to learn. I adjust my approach to the learner. Wherever you are in your learning journey, I will meet you there.

I continue to be fascinated with the marvels of the human body and would love to help you achieve a deep understanding of its structure and workings. Let's communicate about what your needs are and how I can help.

As a physician, I would never presume to be able to tutor in all aspects of nursing. It is a distinct profession with a distinct skills. I have over 30 years of clinical experience and have been a preceptor for internal medicine residents for their clinical learning for over 10 and can assist you in your learning in these areas.

Back when in medical school I was a teaching assistant in both Anatomy and Clinical Pathophysiology with an emphasis on microscopic anatomy in health and disease. I have taught Internal Medicine residents one on one in their primary care clinics for over 10 years. For thirty years as a physician, every physical exam has been an exercise in anatomy

Knowledgeable and responsive

Together we worked through Georgetown University's Advanced Pathophysiology course for graduate school students. Concepts were explained thoroughly and it was surprisingly easy to schedule tutor times. 100% would recommend for this course and am already looking into what other courses we can work together on throughout my time in school.

Very good in the area that I need most help on

Currently in my family nurse practitioner program with only pediatric experience. My internal medicine clinical rotation is a challenging one. Has been a good resource due to background and experience. Also have been able to go over my SOAP notes and assist with clinical skills

Lesson

She taught me about how to structure a patient presentation. I realize that I need to make a lot of progress. I hope I will be able to make a progress. It was nice she wanted me know my status and go from there.

Amazing tutor!

Susan is a great and knowledgeable tutor! She helped me prepare for an upcoming NP exam. She broke each scenario down to help me understand how to improve my assessment. She made sure we were focusing on areas I. We’re help with. I felt very comfortable with her even when I didn’t know what I was doing. I would highly recommend Susan!

Helped me with very specific questions for Pathophysiology!

The lecture slides that I sent were very basic, and my questions about the different topics were at a much more complex level, Susan not only helped me with these questions, but outlined many things that I did not know and were not mentioned on my slides! She is a wonderful teacher! She has a quick pace that works really well for me, she stops at every point to ask if i have any questions. She can either lead the pace of the session by teaching, but can also let you direct the session with a long Q&A as well. We often jumped from system to system completely out of order and she was totally fine with this. She knows her stuff!

Knowledgeable and very helpful

Susan is a great tutor! She provides great information on the topics I would like to cover. Very patient and breaks down information to where I understand it. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor in the medical profession.

Listened and rose to the challenge!

Susan listened to my concerns and fears and addressed them. We have only met for one session so far, we meet again this week, but she jumped right in and helped me address my orthopedic questions regarding assessments. She did not hesitate to show me how to do assessments and answer questions. I look forward to our next session.
