Having a diverse background of growing up in Egypt, attending undergraduate and graduate school in the US and medical school in the West Indies, I have have been fortunate to interact and tutor students throughout every phase of my education. Tutoring students with different cultural and academic backgrounds has taught me to implement an individualistic approach of teaching This method would help enable each of them to learn and understand the concepts rather than just memorize. While attending undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Missouri, I worked as a TA in a Medical Microbiology and immunology lab, this experience has exposed me to teach a group rather than individuals at once. It lead me to implement methods of active learning to ensure that the content presented was understood by everyone. While also working as a tutor in the athletic department, I would be assigned to student athletes who were performing poorly in their courses due to the lack of interest in studying and education, while allocating most of their time to training for their respective sport. For the first time it has taught me that being able to built trust, mentor, and support a student can have a major impact on their academic performance. That in order to gain a students respect and attention, you have to give them the same in return. During the past several years, i have also worked in healthcare and public health. As a firm believer of disease prevention, this has lead me to focus vastly on educating patients on understanding their illnesses and methods that would improve their prognosis. Also, during my public health training I would attend clinics in areas that are endemic for certain conditions (Hepatitis C, HIV etc…) and present to the locals about the etiologies and pathologies of these conditions, and how they could prevent or decrease their risk of exposure. Each of these experiences has been a crucial component of the my ideologies on how to effectively teach, mentor, and motivate people about learning by understanding. I believe that being a teacher is more than just explaining content, but being able to teach using an individualistic approach, while building trust with all those you work with, whether a student, patient, or members of a community.

Tutored biological sciences throughout graduate school. Was a TA for medical microbiology and immunology. I have continued to study molecular microbiology and immunology while conducting research at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Studied and tutored medical sciences throughout medical school, and post-graduation.

I have tutored students with many diverse backgrounds. High school, undergraduate, graduate, health professionals and student athletes. I believe that every person has their own preferred learning method and it is vital to utilize this method to help the student reach their greatest potential.

Genetics,

Genetics

I have studied and completed multiple courses of genetics in both undergraduate and medical school. I have also tutored genetics while attending graduate school at the University of Missouri. Many topics covered in genetics are conceptual while others require problem solving abilities. It has always been helpful to students when I would present them with certain problems or concepts and they would try and answer them on their own. I would also review them with the students step by step to see where they would have had any complications and address it.
Microbiology,

Microbiology

I have completed a microbiology and immunology as a capstone course while pursuing a Bachelors in Biological Sciences. I was also a TA for the lecture and lab sections during graduate school. I studied and completed another Microbiology course during medical school and have tutored the class for several months after graduating.
Pharmacology,

Pharmacology

I studied pharmacology during my medical school training and have continuously reviewed it during preparations for my board examinations. After graduating medical school I have also tutored pharmacology throughout the past year to students attending pharmacy school and other health professions programs. A method that has shown to work during my experiences with this course is quizzing the student. There are a lot of key concepts to memorize that even though it is important for the student to understand the mechanism of action, it is also essential to constantly quiz them to remember key details like drug contraindications and adverse effects. Also, completing practice questions has also helped the students tailor there thought process on how questions would be presented to them during their examinations.
Physiology

Physiology

I have studied physiology in depth during my undergraduate studies and medical school. I have also tutored the course for the past several years.
