Bonjour mes amis...Hello my friends. I am an experienced teacher certified in French, ESL (both K-12) and English 9-12.
In addition to teaching full-time at middle and high school levels, I have also given private French lessons to adolescent and adult students from beginner to advanced levels. In addition, I have tutored ESL students in English vocabulary, grammar and writing, as well as specific content areas such as ELA, science or social studies.
What I love about tutoring is the ability to tailor the teaching to the needs of a specific student and then watching them succeed.
I have long experience teaching English language to adolescents and adults both in the US and in France. In addition to being a certified ESL and English teacher for 9-12, I have many years of experience as a writer for professional and consumer magazines, advertising and public relations. I scored in the top 15% of anyone taking the Praxis exam for English 9-12. I taught a sheltered 9th grade English class for ESL students at a HS in Chapel Hill, where I was also Newcomer Director.
I scored 200/200 on the content area of the Praxis test for French. I earned my Master's Degree from NYU at their Paris Campus, and I spent my senior year at Sarah Lawrence at their Paris campus as well. These experiences of living and studying in France have given me an in depth knowledge of the French language and culture. Not only did I have the opportunity to take classes in the French university system, including the Sorbonne, I was the first graduate student from NYU to be chosen for an internship at the prestigious Musée Picasso. In addition, I worked as a consultant for several different UN agencies in Paris and New York. This honed skills in business French and broadened my view of the international importance of French and the many varied francophone cultures around the world.
I look forward to hearing from interested students and helping you to succeed! You can schedule lessons for late afternoons on school days or on weekends. Bonjour mes amis...Hello my friends. I am an experienced teacher certified in French, ESL (both K-12) and English 9-12.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied in France at undergraduate and graduate levels. I have a Master's degree in French, have traveled widely in France and neighboring countries, and have worked at the UNNC.
