Ashford University (Education Studies)
I have been teaching and tutoring students since I was a teenager, and still a high school student myself. I've always had a love of learning and teaching. I am working to complete my degree in Education at Ashford University.
I have experience teaching 3rd-12th grade students. I work to find an individualized approach that will help each of my students achieve success. I have experience working with students who have learning disabilities including dyslexia, auditory processing disorders, visual impairment, autism spectrum disorders, ADD and ADHD, and other challenges. I have also worked with students who are experiencing a prolonged absence from the classroom due to a chronic illness, hospitalization, or surgery.
I love helping each student meet goals, and helping to increase self-esteem in my students as they become more confident in the subject matter.
I have worked with elementary school students to help improve math skills for End of Grade tests and to improve understanding of material throughout the year.
I am an Elementary Education studies major, and I have a lot of experience working directly with K-6 students in an academic setting. I have helped students improve reading and writing skills, overcome math phobia, and learn science skills through fun, hands-on activities. I like to make each subject become something to which my students can relate, and see how various subjects are actually used in real-world scenarios and situations.
I began playing violin in 1990, and have played in countless concerto competitions, orchestra concerts, and solo recitals. I was first chair in my high school orchestra. I taught beginning violin students while I was in high school, and most of my students were in preK-1st grade.
I have been working with students with learning challenges since I first became an aide and then a camp counselor. I have had some training on working with students with Autisim Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, and academic challenges.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a student teacher in a 4th grade elementary school classroom. I have also worked teaching K-6 students in an afternoon supplemental school program, beginning when I was 16. I work to use individualized methods with each of my students, and persist until every student is successful. I have many ways to present information to a student, and use all of the senses if needed to help make learning something that is not as scary.
I began playing violin when I was 4 years old. I studied the Suzuki method. I quickly moved through the Suzuki books and began playing concertos and sonatas in solo competitions as a child in elementary in middle school. In high school, in addition to playing violin in orchestra, a quartet, and private violin lessons, I taught private violin lessons to preschool students using the Suzuki method.
