About Ashish

I am currently an undergraduate Morehead-Cain Scholar at UNC Chapel Hill. I am majoring in Computer Science and I am minoring in Biology and Chemistry with the intent to either attend medical school or pursue doctoral studies in Computer Science later on. I am originally from Greenville, NC and I graduated from Junius H. Rose High School in May 2014.

My academic qualifications span many different subjects. I am proficient in many introductory level science and math classes (such as calculus and chemistry). I am also proficient in numerous humanities and English classes, especially government and politics. I am skilled with programming in Java and Matlab and am in the process of learning additional programming languages. Finally, I am skilled at numerous random skills such as chess, Mario Kart, and poker.

Outside of the classroom, my hobbies consist of watching movies, hanging out with friends, reading, and spending time with family. I also enjoy running a lot and I ran cross country all four years in high school. For clubs and organizations, I am involved with Best Buddies and I work in a research lab on UNC's Campus. I am also heavily involved in volunteering with individuals with special needs. In high school, I started an organization that helped to unite the student body with the population of special needs kids at my school. At UNC, I volunteer weekly with Special Olympics and am involved with initiatives on campus to promote awareness for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

My methods for tutoring are simple. First, I recommend that each tutee brings any supplies or materials they have for their course. I will also do the same. I will also utilize numerous online resources as well in order to aid the instruction. Finally, I enjoy getting to know every student I tutor because I feel that aids in helping the tutee learn the material from me more effectively. From past tutoring experiences, I have been able to relate to the tutee on some other topic unrelated to the tutoring subject at hand. I have learned that being able to relate to the student in this way aids the student in learning the tutoring subject at the end. I want to establish this connection because I genuinely want my tutees to learn the material. In addition, payment isn't a priority to me. Money comes and goes; however, information that is learned effectively stays for a lifetime.

I hope that you all will let me work with you on any subject you need help with! If you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I got a very high A in very high school math class I took and I am currently taking Calc 3 at UNC, which I have an A in. I enjoy math a lot and I have tutored math in high school. Therefore, I have expertise in which methods are the most beneficial to help tutees learn the concepts!

Track & Field

I ran track and field and cross country while in High School. I remember many of the coaching methods that my coach taught us with and I intend to use those same methods while tutoring. In addition, our coach's tutoring practices were different, yet very effective. I will keep that in mind when tutoring students in track and field. Finally, I love running and I run every day. I want to instill this passion in whoever comes to me for guidance on this matter.

Patient and efficient

Ashish not only knows math, he is friendly and instantly able to gain trust in his student. The concepts my son did not understand in school, Ashish was able to explain in a way my son can understand and repeat them. We just started with Ashish and are hopeful my son will be able to pull up his math grade as well as understand math better
