I am an elementary school teacher who is currently on extended maternity leave. I am working part-time for Harvard School of Education, but I am also seeking out potential students to tutor privately. I have 7 years of experience as a classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and instructional facilitator. I have experience working with EC, ELL, and AIG students and am very skilled at differentiated instruction. I earned my Master’s Degree in Literacy (K-12) from UNC-Chapel Hill. While literacy is my expertise, I am competent and certified to tutor in any subject area. I also offer enrichment activities for students who need extension. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked extensively with ADD/ADHD students during my teaching career. I am very skilled at accommodating them and differentiating my instruction to keep them engaged in learning. I also have successfully used many behavioral techniques and interventions to help with motivation and focus in the classroom.
I have worked with many dyslexic students during my teaching career. I am very skilled at accommodating them and differentiating my instruction to keep them engaged in learning. I learned a lot about different effective reading interventions for dyslexic students while studying for my Master's Degree in Literacy from UNC-CH.
I have a (K-6) North Carolina Teaching License and a Master's Degree in Literacy (K-12). I have 6 years of teaching experience, mostly in 3rd grade, but I did some co-teaching in a 2nd grade classroom. In addition to being a classroom teacher, I have had jobs as a Reading Interventionist and Instructional Facilitator.
I have been an athlete my entire life, and enjoy living a healthy, active lifestyle. I was a counselor and assistant director of a Sports Camp for 6 years, so I am very experienced when it comes to teaching all types of sports and fitness activities.
I have classroom teaching experience in 2nd and 3rd grade, and I have taught phonics through many different programs. I am Hill Center certified, which means I went through and passed 4 classes in their certification program. They are a nationally-recognized school known for helping students with learning disabilities.
I have many years of teaching experience, and have an expertise in literacy. I earned my Master's Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and am very skilled at analyzing reading issues. I love coming up with fun and interesting lesson plans that allow students to enjoy their reading and improve at the same time.
I have played soccer competitively most of my life. I played club and school soccer through high school, and have played a few seasons of adult league soccer over the last few years. While I have never coached soccer, I did work at the YMCA Sport Camp for 6 summers and taught elementary and middle school students soccer skills and strategy. I ran soccer drills and officiated scrimmages and matches.
As an elementary educator, I have helped many students succeed, and having proper study skills is an extremely important component to student success. I am skilled in teaching note-taking techniques, organization, and time management. I have worked with both students and parents in helping their child organize their schedules and with their study techniques.
