About Kim

As you may have read from my tag-line, I believe in tutoring and coaching services that provide my students with a chance to wonder about all that things of which they are capable. That is the thought-provoking part.

The empowerment part comes from your child truly believing through my guidance and encouragement that they can accomplish greater things if they continue to believe in themselves.

As a Master's level educator, coach and tutor with about 15 years experience, I have had the pleasure of not only teaching and imparting academic and life lessons to my students but allowing them to teach me as well. That may sound a bit odd, but it is in knowing that as parents, teachers, etc., we all stand to learn more about the best ways to provide lessons to others, and what better way than to listen, watch and learn from them.

For the past five years, I have worked with children with special needs. I am patient, compassionate, driven and willing to take on more than what is usually expected - especially if it serves as a benefit to someone eager to learn and feel successful. I also happen to have a pretty good sense of humor, too.

As a small business owner for those interested in the field of Wellness, I have a keen understanding of what it takes to lead others toward a sense of accomplishment and well-being and nothing, in my opinion, compares to what some view as a come-from-behind win. In other words, obtaining the very things that one may have thought out of reach.

If there is anything else you would like to discuss, please get in touch as I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs and interests.

Have a great day!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a special needs teacher, I have had the pleasure of working with approximately 50 children with autism spectrum disorder, many of whom were diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome.

This part of my teaching career was one of the most rewarding as it taught me that although my students happened to have a diagnosis of Asperger's - that all were individuals and capable of learning and illustrating wonderful things, given the chance.

The best part was, although I was the teacher, in working with this very special population of students, I was taught new things by listening, watching and appreciating the very special gifts that all my students would impart with each day.

I find it not only interesting to follow recipes but to create my own, change them and then discover new ways to enjoy not only the food but the experience. What I truly love is to pass on that knowledge to others.

I have prepared not only home-cooked meals for myself, family and friends but have also prepared dishes for those less fortunate as I volunteer quite a bit and find that helping others during times of crisis lends a good deal of comfort and support.

More recently, I've found it increasingly important and enjoyable to cook with natural and locally grown ingredients for not only myself but others as well.

As far as practical experience outside the home, I had worked in the restaurant business for over 25 years, acting in all roles that help to run the business. I had also worked as a short-order cook. Fun but very demanding work.

Elementary (K-6th)

As an educator and tutor for children in grades K-12 for approximately 15 years, I have spent a good deal of time teaching Reading, Math and English/Language Arts as there is a great emphasis on these subjects in school today. I have taught one on one as well as in small group settings, am patient and enjoy making learning fun, thought-provoking and a time of discovery.

I am a certified Physical Education teacher for grades K-12 and have an array of creative approaches to teaching a variety of sport and activities.

As someone who enjoys reading, I have a keen understanding that reading is a wonderful way to learn about our worlds and ourselves but is also a requirement in school today.

It is in knowing this, that I have a deep appreciation for how challenging it is for children to extract from and comprehend the subject matter to succeed in this area. Having a love of reading allows me to be creative in my approach, although I do believe that patience, encouragement and guidance go a long way.

One of the most important lessons I feel that I can impart to those with reading struggles is to approach things methodically and gradually. In doing so, reading is not rushed but rather "experienced."

As a former Softball player (30+ years) and Physical Education teacher with close to 20 years of coaching experience (most of it Softball), I am highly qualified to teach the finer points of, not only, the game of Softball but also mechanics and finding one's own unique style of play.

I feel it's most important to impart lessons that are easily understood and which can, ultimately, lead to continued confidence and personal empowerment leading to grace and success both on and off the field.

Please feel free to get in touch so that we may have a chat regarding my experience and to answer any questions you may have.

Special Needs

As a former Adaptive Physical Education teacher for those with an array of developmental delays, I have a keen understanding of the importance of educating children as individuals as needs vary greatly from student to student. I believe that patience and creativity are key in providing pertinent messages and information that a child can understand and use in practical forms.

As someone who has been teaching children ages 5-22 for the last 10 years, and in varied educational environments, I am sensitive to creating an atmosphere of personal successes, however small to begin with to ensure confidence and a willingness to proceed and build on what has already been accomplished. It is these accomplishments that need to be revisited as they are the building blocks and cornerstones of future success and self-esteem.

Writing, I feel, is one of those outlets that can make all the difference in how we see and feel about our worlds.

It is in getting our feelings down on paper that we have a chance to see where we've been and where we'd like to go, whether literally or figuratively but always creatively.

I would welcome the opportunity to work with your child so that they may discover some untapped strengths in not only the creation process but also, the chance to continually learn about their very distinctive and imaginative selves.

As one who has practiced and taught Hatha Yoga, I find one of the most essential elements to understanding its many benefits is to incorporate Yoga into your life rather than your life into Yoga. In other words, there is no one right or wrong way to practice Yoga asanas (positions) but rather altering them to your comfort level so that breathing and comfort are easily attained and therefore, practiced more readily.

The practice of Yoga takes time and so it is keys that one will approach Yoga gradually and with patience and care.
