I am a well qualified and experienced teacher of Physics, Chemistry and General Science who moved from Europe to North Carolina in 2010. I am a British national with teaching experience in the UK, Peru, Italy and Switzerland. Currently I tutor Honors Chemistry and Physics, AP Physics and Chemistry, IB physics and Chemistry and undergraduate courses such as Physics 104, Chemistry 101, 102, 151 and 152.
My overseas experience includes teaching Physics and Chemistry up to Pre University level and general science to younger students. I am a big fan of the International Baccalaureate System. I have 13 years of teaching IB Physics Higher and Standard levels and several years teaching IB Chemistry Standard and Higher Level.
During my teaching career I have taught students of all abilities, from high flyers destined to study Physics at Harvard, Duke, Oxford and Cambridge to those students who found physics and chemistry really quite puzzling and needed lots of extra support to gain a passing grade in a subject they had assumed was beyond them. I recently was struggling with college Physics and I had heard great things about Jane and she really did pass my expectations. She was extremely helpful and always came prepared with handwritten notes, and did all the practice problems before the tutoring session. She explained things to me much better than my actual professor and explained things in a very easy to understand way and also applied things to real life situations. I highly recommend Jane to anyone struggling in physics.
Many thanks, Natalie for your feedback. I hope all goes well in the exams.
I have struggled with Chemistry and I am finally doing very well in this class thanks to Jane. She works very hard to make sure she meets your needs. Every session she has printed notes, practice problems and interactive tools. I am very pleased and would recommend Jane to anyone that needs a chemistry or physics tutor.
Jane is a great teacher; she is patient and creative, making the lessons not only tolerable, but actually exciting for our 17 year old son. Jane finds ways to make our son interested in continuing tutoring; more, he has become more confident in his abilities since he started these lessons. This teacher has been also very reliable, and easy to reach if needed. She responds to emails within the hour, and she is also easily reached over the phone. We fully recommend her.
Jane B. develops her tutorials to meet the specific needs of my daughter. Jane approaches each lesson in a manner that builds the confidence of my daughter. The lessons are prepared in advance after consultation between student and tutor, and this ensure student-oriented teaching.
Jane has been a wonderful tutor for our daughter who is struggling with Chemistry. From our first contact she has been professional, helpful, and easy to reach. Before her first visit she had already purchased the book that our daughter is using, and reviewed the appropriate material. After her first visit she emailed us some additional materials that she felt my daughter would find helpful in preparing for an upcoming test. My daughter really likes working with her and is feeling more confident already, after just two sessions. I have no hesitation in recommending Jane.
My son had not studied physics in high school and had no idea about it. Jane is the one who made it so easy for him to understand the subject and after 5 lessons he is so interested in this field, he can understand and solve problems and has developed a genuine interest in this subject. I am amazed at how Jane has accomplished this. She is a real teacher.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
