I specialize in teaching reading because without the ability to read learning is difficult. Teaching requires more than an understanding of the subject matter. More importantly it requires an understanding of how children learn. I earned my Masters degree in the Psychology of Education from Columbia University. The core of my studies revolved around how children learn.
I have taught remedial reading in New York City public school system. I am currently a substitute teacher in both Flagler and St. Johns counties and tutor reading on a private basis. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My career in the computer industry spanned 25 years. In 1980 I learned to program computers using the Business Basic computer language. I am experienced in developing databases, troubleshooting both hardware and software. I am also knowledgeable in website design and the use of html editorsincluding Dreamweaver and Frontpage. I am profivient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and Publisher. Also work with Photoshop and Fireworks.
I posses a certificate of eligibility Reading Endorsement from Florida DOE. I have been tutoring phonics in St. Augustine under the Title I SES program.
I possess a BA Degree in Psychology from Sty. Johns University, New York. My Masters Degree is in The Psychology of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. My studies focused on how children learn and the effect of various conditions on the ability to learn. My Masters degree program included course specific to the teaching of reading.
My Reading Endorsement certification specifically covers the best practices for phonics instruction. I have been teaching phonics to school age children for over 10 years. This includes children under the Federal Title I program for children classified SES eligible.
