While teaching has never been my primary occupation it has always been a part of my hobbies. My interest in science led me to very often visit dark night locations with school kids and several telescopes to see the night sky. I own a flight school and spend all my time there teaching both in airplanes as well as on the ground. Lastly I am an FAA instructor and commercial pilot who on several occasions led aviation ground school classes at the local community college.
My primary job is as a computer programmer and I have been doing that for over 30 years. I'm a North Carolina native, married for many years and have a dog named Darcy.
My first interest going through school was math and all through high school and college I was able to continue to enjoy it more. Later it led to my pursuit of a computer science degree (which includes lots of math).
I am a past president of the Raleigh Astronomy Club for a number of years and in that capacity I met hundreds of school age kids at Astronomy oriented events. I own several telescopes, one I built myself, which I have used to promote astronomy both under the night sky and at Astronomy Day events at Raleigh museums. My interests also extend to astrophotography.
I have been a computer programmer since 1977 and have worked with many computer languages and technologies. Currently I am most likely be to using C# or Visual BASIC. I owned and operated a computer software consulting company in Raleigh for 12 years and managed state wide and nation wide projects.
People that I work with say I have a logical mind and that I am very good at organizing and explaining a topic so that they can understand it better. I enjoy teaching and helping others achieve their dreams. I would do my best to help you with yours. While teaching has never been my primary occupation it has always been a part of my hobbies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked professionally as a C# software developer since the first version was published by Microsoft as one of the .NET languages. Prior to working with C# I used both the C and C++ languages. As a developer I have created numerous desktop applications and web sites and web services using C#. Today I use both C# and Visual BASIC based on whichever language my customer prefers.
I have been working with computers since 1978 when I purchased a Commodore PET with money earned mowing lawns in my neighborhood. That marked the beginning of a career in computers and software that is still in progress. I ran a computer software development company which employed 6 persons for 12 years. Sold that company and am now, at least until I retire, back working as a full time software engineer.
BASIC was the first computer language I worked with when I purchased my first computer somewhere around 1978. Since then I have used several different variants of the language up the current .NET supported version known as Visual BASIC. As a software developer I have created numerous desktop applications and web sites and web services using Visual BASIC. Today I use both C# and Visual BASIC based on whichever language my customer prefers.
