UNC Chapel Hill (Math BA and Biology BS)
I am a graduate of UNC Chapel HIll with a Biology and Math double major. I have been tutoring for over six months now, which I realize is not much experience, but I am patient and love helping people and passing on my knowledge. My subjects of concentration lie primarily in Math. It was always my favorite subject in school, so much so that I attended a national math competition in Washington, D.C., went to a summer math camp in Rhode Island, and received a perfect 800 score on the Math section of the SAT.
I soundly believe in positive reinforcement and building upon foundations to help with future courses in the subject. I understand that sometimes the class environment can move too fast and I will work at your pace so as to make sure you understand the necessary concepts before moving onto the next topic. My style of instruction involves repetition and teaching by example. I find that people understand and remember new ideas better if they are allowed to implement them as soon as they are taught. Creating frequent checkpoints ensures that a student is grasping the material and is ready to move on to subsequent topics. On the other hand, if you believe your class is moving too slowly, I will strive to challenge you with problems that require extra thinking and making connections with past material.
If you believe my approach to teaching fits your needs, please don't hesitate to contact me for more information. Tutored my son in NC Math II. Very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. My son came away with a much better understanding of the material and gave him a lot of confidence for the course.
Piryanka helped my daughter who had an F in high school math get a C in two days! Now my daughter is moving up from the C. I'm sure she will be at a B in no time. We are so lucky we found her.
My daughter is very excited to learn math now that Piryanka is working so closely with her. She able to identify exactly where my daughter needs the most assistance! We're very happy with the service she provides us!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
