About Andrew

I am an easygoing 10-year veteran high school science and math teacher. I have a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Mathematics, an MA in Teaching with a concentration in Mathematics, and have completed significant coursework working towards an MS in Computer Science. I currently hold a valid Advanced Professional teaching certificate from the state of Maryland in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics for grades 7-12. I have teaching experience ranging from suburban private schools to inner-city Title I schools. Notably, I have three years experience teaching International Baccalaureate (IB) Biology HL and coordinating Group 4 projects, and have also authored and implemented a 6-week GT Physics accelerated hybrid online/face-to-face class with students exhibiting a 100% high pass rate.

I firmly believe in rigor within reason, which is to say, I enjoy challenging my students, but not in supersaturating them to the point of frustration and/or shutting down. My students realize results and are held as accountable stakeholders in their own personal growth and development. I believe that learning is a necessary life-long habit, and endeavor to infuse that belief within my students. I seek to empower others by sharing my knowledge, and work towards developing an insatiable thirst and undying curiosity within my students. I often learn just as much from my students as I am able to share, which constantly fuels my joy in learning. The journey often involves hard work, discipline, determination, adaptability, and most importantly, the ability to laugh.

I am best situated to tutor in the Cary/Morrisville area during weeknights, but am certainly open to other possibilities as required. If you are interested in communicating further, please feel free to privately message me. You will find that I am very easy-going , prompt, courteous, and incredibly accommodating. Thank you for your time and interest!

Excellent job of explaining concepts so that a student UNDERSTANDS WHY they are doing the math

Andrew is exceptional at explaining difficult math (calculus) concepts so that my son not only understands how to solve the problem, he also has a much better understanding of why a certain equation is being used and how this might be applied to a "real" world situation. He is also amazingly patient and kind and very in tune with when a student may need to have a math problem or concept explained
