Duke University (Biology)
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University in 2017, with a B.S. in Biology and a 3.9 GPA. I have been tutoring for the past 6 years; in high school, I worked as a math and literature tutor for elementary and middle school kids. In college, I was a peer tutor for organic chemistry and introductory chemistry courses. As a student applying to medical school, I have completed over 600 hours of college-level chemistry and biology and am therefore most confident in tutoring science classes up to the AP level.
My teaching philosophy is that every student is capable of mastering a topic, no matter how difficult the concept may be. Through my years of experience working as a tutor, I have learned to adapt to a variety of learning styles and work ethics. My approach is to first diagnose and address a student's area of weakness, and subsequently to work through several examples with the student. After all, I believe repetition is the key to success!
I am passionate about tutoring -- there is no greater feeling than seeing student's grasp a challenging concept and excel in their courses. I am patient, great with kids, and committed to my student's success. If you are interested in learning more or in setting up a session, please don't hesitate to contact me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've taken Algebra 1 Honors and have used the concepts learned in Algebra 1 to the Calculus courses I now take with SDSU. I am comfortable with the material and have countless old textbooks and workbooks that can be used for practice.
I've taken Algebra 2 and Trig Honors my sophomore year of high school and currently still apply concepts in trig and algebra in my AP Physics and Calc classes.
I am currently enrolled in Calculus III through SDSU and am most comfortable teaching Calculus I.
The basic skills learned in elementary math are constantly applied in higher level courses, and as a current student I am more than familiar with these skills. Having always earned A's in my honors and AP-level courses, I am very in tune with the material and study skills that must be utilized.
I've taken AP Biology and AP Chemistry and am currently enrolled in AP Physics. I received A's in both classes as well as 5's on the national AP exam. In addition to AP-level science, I've taken general biology and chemistry my sophomore and freshman year.
I have taken both AP English Language and AP English Literature in my high school and have successfully shown my ability to analyze literature, explore themes, and articulate ideas in essays.
I have also taken multiple SAT prep courses that have strengthened my understanding of grammar and vocabulary, and I have plenty of past worksheets that I can use for your child!
I have personally scored in the 94 percentile (516) on the MCAT and have been accepted to several medical schools for the fall of 2018. In addition to helping a student master the necessary knowledge for all sections of the MCAT, I am able to provide test-taking strategies and tips for boosting a medical school application.
Prealgebra contains many fundamental math concepts and skills that I have applied everyday in my high school math courses (honors geometry, honors algebra II/trig, and AP calculus). I am very comfortable with the topics in prealgebra and know how to teach the concepts within prealgebra.
