About Alexis

Hello everyone,

My name is Alexis and I am currently a law student at the University of North Carolina School of Law. In May of 2015, I graduated from Salem College with majors in both Psychology and Criminal Studies. I graduated magna cum laude and was a member of an honor society for students in the top 10% of their class. In undergraduate school, I was a Lehman Science/Math scholar and I was awarded the President's Prize in Criminal Studies. I have been asked to serve as a writing tutor for college level students and have also worked with students in elementary school. I have numerous other experiences that provide me with the knowledge to help students succeed in their academic career.

I welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications and availability.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

At Salem College, I graduated with Honors in Criminal Studies. Moreover, I was the senior selected to receive the President's Prize for Criminal Studies. My research for the civil commitment of sexually violent predators was presented at the Honors Symposium of Salem College.
My criminal knowledge is ongoing and I am currently enrolled in a Criminal Law course at UNC Law. Furthermore, I have practical experience working with prosecution, defense, and legal assistance.

Elementary (K-6th)

In the past, I have tutored various students with their Elementary K-6th subjects. I have around three years of experience working with students in reading, writing, and math. While under my supervision students have done well in their courses and have significantly improved their grades. I have worked with students using both the material provided to them by their school and also additional materials for students to use throughout the summer. On various occasions, I present my own materials in order to use new methods of learning that may work better for students.

Logic

In order to attend law school I took the LSAT, which includes a logic portion. In preparation I have taken two classes concerning the LSAT and have over a year of experience with complex logic problems. Through person experience I have seen that complex logic problems are set up in one of only several different ways. The problems can often be broken down into smaller problems that are much easier to solve.
