About Kayleigh

I am a third-year Ph. D. student in the biology department at UNC Chapel Hill and a graduate of Amherst College, where I majored in biology. I have extensive tutoring experience, especially in math. I tutored middle school and high school students while I was an undergraduate, focusing on preparation for the required state exams. I have received training on the SAT, PSAT, and ACT, and I have been tutoring high school students preparing for these tests since September 2012. I consider myself motivated, flexible, and driven, and my past students have all reached their score increase goals after working with me. I understand that each student is different, and I think I have been able to cater to the needs of each student to reach the goals that they set for themselves.

I am available to meet in the evenings and on weekends, and I am able to travel anywhere in the Research Triangle area.

If your child is going to be a junior, it's best to start early to make sure that there is ample time to prepare. I am an affordable tutor ($40/hr) who can help your child get ready for these important standardized tests.

Please, feel free to reach out to me with any questions. We can see if you think I would be a good match for your student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored high school students for the last six years and I worked for two years preparing students for exams like the SAT and ACT. I gained a fair amount of experience helping students in their preparation, as well as received trainings throughout that time period to ensure that I was up-to-date on test-taking strategies. All of my students have reached their personal score goals, and I pride myself in my ability to work with a student to determine methods that work for him or her.

Algebra 1

I tutored high school students in math in an after-school program that I ran throughout my four years of college. Additionally, I worked with the company, Studypoint, for the last 2 years, preparing students for exams like the SAT and ACT. Although this company focused on standardized test preparation, I learned a lot about test-taking strategies and problem solving methods that could be applied to coursework preparation as well. Most recently, I have tutored local high school students in biology and environmental science. All of my students have reached their personal goals, and I pride myself in my ability to work with a student to determine methods that work for them.

Biology

I tutored high-school students in a variety of subjects, especially math and science, in an after-school program that I ran throughout my four years of college. During college, I also tutored students in introductory chemistry and biology courses. Since graduating college in 2012, I have worked part-time preparing students for exams like the SAT and ACT. Although this focused on standardized test preparation, I learned a lot about test-taking strategies and problem solving methods that could be applied to general high school courses as well. All of my students have reached their personal goals, and I pride myself in my ability to work with a student to determine methods that work for them.

I am currently a first-year doctoral student in biology, focusing on disease ecology and evolution. I spent the last two years working in a lab that studies obesity and metabolism, and I majored in biology during my time at Amherst College.

Feedback from past students:

"Our tutor was positive and professional. We would definitely recommend Kayleigh to others."

"Kayleigh delivers an excellent experience - she is organized, professional, warm, and smart."

Elementary Math

I tutored young students in math in an after-school program that I ran throughout my four years of college. Additionally, I worked with a company for the last 2 years, preparing students for exams like the SAT and ACT. Although this company focused on standardized test preparation, I learned a lot about test-taking strategies and problem solving methods that could be applied to elementary math as well. All of my students have reached their personal goals, and I pride myself in my ability to work with a student to determine methods that work for them.

Genetics

In college, I was the teaching assistant for evolutionary biology, which included genetic components. I have a bachelor's degree from Amherst College in biology. I am currently a doctoral student in biology at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and I will be studying genetics as part of my research.

SAT Math

I have tutored high school students for the last 6 years, and I worked with a tutoring company for the last 2 years, preparing students for exams like the SAT and ACT. Through this company, I gained a fair amount of experience helping students in their preparation, as well as received training throughout that time period to ensure that I was up to date on test-taking strategies. Excellent!

We have met with Kayleigh two times now, and I can't say enough positive things about her. She is punctual, flexible with her time, and most of all, knowledgeable about the content she is teaching. She takes the pressure of me and my daughter. Awesome!
