Hola! Hi all! I am a licensed K-12 Spanish teacher that is taking a break from full-time teaching. I have traveled to Costa Rica, Honduras, and extensively within Spain. In addition to my travels and educational background in Spanish, I am a graduate student pursuing a masters degree in education; I am two classes away from earning my degree. I have worked with students in public and private schools as well as summer programs, encountering a variety of learning needs and styles and doing my best to meet my students' needs.
I believe that language learning is fun and strive to make it that way for my students. Please contact me with any questions! Hola! Hi all! Jillian is always well-prepared for our classes, and she keeps the activities fresh and varied, so the kids are always engaged.
Jillian is so helpful each and every time we meet. I love that I found her to help me with my Spanish class. She is professional, helpful in her tutorial tips and skills. And she has helped me greatly to pull my grade up and expand my understanding of Spanish. She has helped me learn how to ask questions, conjugate verbs, and hold simple conversations. She helped me pass my midterm and ace my quizzes. She is so WONDERFUL!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While in college, I worked on a weekly basis in several elementary classrooms through the America Counts/America Reads program. I helped kindergarten students with reading and supported 4th and 5th graders with reading and math. I worked with elementary school students at a summer camp, providing remedial support as well as additional academic challenge depending on the needs of the student. Additionally, I was a babysitter for two 8 year-old girls for a semester, helping them with their homework among other tasks.
In addition to work experience, I completed a rigorous teacher preparation program at the University of Southern Maine. Although focusing mainly on high school students' needs, I took several classes together with elementary school teachers. I have nearly completed my Masters of Science in Education -- just two classes away from earning the degree.
I studied Spanish in high school and majored in it in college. I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain where I lived with a host family. Since then, I have traveled extensively within Spain and to Costa Rica and Honduras. I have been teaching Spanish at the high school level (Spanish I through Advanced Spanish) for over 3 years now.
