About Maggie

My name is Maggie, and I am a young educator looking to help students reach their full potential in ELA! I have always loved reading, writing, and being around children. Growing up, I babysat and nannied often, and it wasn't long before I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2014 and have two years of teaching experience. I have taught 5th grade ELA, science and social studies and 6th grade ELA. I want students to enjoy reading and writing as much as I do, and more than that I want them to succeed at it. I absolutely love being in the Gen Ed setting; however, I feel like students learn best in small group or 1 on 1 instruction. Sadly, most Gen Ed classroom positions can not accommodate that type of learning environment, so that is why I have begun tutoring. I would love to help your student succeed in ELA and develop a love for literature and everything it encompasses!

Many ELA curriculums are focusing on analyzing textual evidence and supporting opinions and responses with just that. I have a lot of experience in this area and truly enjoy watching students gain more confidence throughout their writing as they master this standard. In order for students to analyze the text as a whole, they must KNOW what they are reading. Analyzing, annotating, summarizing, and answering the "so what?" of literature all drive my reading instruction. It is through mastering these standards that students steadily become ELA rockstars!

I am taking the 2016-2017 school year off to focus on tutoring and more 1 to 1 instruction. I am available most weekdays and am open to discussing potential times. I would love a regular schedule and to meet with your student at least once to two times a week. The more often, the better!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
