My name is Michelle. I graduated with a Masters in Mathematics from Virginia Commonwealth University. While there I wrote my thesis on a new bound for the independence number for a graph. I taught my own classes both years. I taught college algebra and precalculus. I loved teaching full classes but I love tutoring one on one. I also privately tutored for six months after I finished my Bachelors degree at Virginia Tech. I have also taught geometry and precalculus at the high school level.
When I tutor I typically like to go through the material while doing many practice problems. While I was a student at Virginia Tech, I worked in the Math Emporium where students take online math courses. I was responsible for helping the students with any questions they had on the material for the six different courses that were offered. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
