I taught 1st grade last year and I currently teach 5th grade. I enjoy helping students have that "Ah Ha!" moment where things click and suddenly make sense. I want to help students get a different perspective and teaching style to master struggling subjects. Sometimes children just need a change of pace, different face, and a different outlook to master a skill. I am here to get them out of that slump and feel more confident about school! I want to be that sideline cheerleader as they excel through their subjects! I thoroughly love reading and writing. I am a very hands-on visual learner, so I tend to teach that way. I like to see and touch things in order to remember or learn it. I am also big on incorporating many different learning techniques, in case one is not connecting with the child. I like to show video clips, create things, read books, get manipulatives out, and use computer software. I don't believe that doing the same thing every day will help a child remember. I like doing things in different forms and techniques to keep the child engaged. I only have an hour or two to get a child's attention and get my point across. I need to get straight to it and keep on moving. I don't like to overload students, but I do what it takes to cover and master a skill.
I am a graduate student at ECU studying Birth-Kindergarten Education/Child and Family Development. I plan to graduate May 2016. I have a passion for helping young kids thrive! I love learning how their minds think and develop as they explore through life events. I have married to my husband almost 2 years with a little one on the way. I have always worked with children since I was 14. I started babysitting my brother and neighborhood kids. Then worked at a daycare while in school, before I started teaching. Hope this gives you a little snapshot of me and what I am about! I taught 1st grade last year and I currently teach 5th grade. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
