Hello parents! I want to give you a little background on my career. I have been teaching third grade for a year and a half now in two different schools. I did my student teaching and internships in grades 2,4, and 5. I am currently at a STEM school which focuses on science, technology, math, and engineering. I absolutely love third grade and am very confident in the curriculum. My main focus as a teacher is to find how your child learns. If your child learns and retains more while sitting on an exercise ball, then we will use an exercise ball! I believe in using music and movements to learn as well as hands-on activities.
For some personal background on me, I have been married to my high school sweetheart now for a year and a half. We have two big dogs, a Siberian Husky and a German Shepherd. I attended a private elementary, middle, and high school. I have taught in only public schools but I have substituted in private schools. I am willing to meet at a home for tutoring or in a coffee shop or park. I have worked in all three situations. Contact me for more information! Hello parents! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a third grade teacher in the North Carolina public school system I have had professional development in Common Core instruction. I have been planning lessons and units aligned with Common Core now for a year and a half. If I am not familiar with a particular grade level, I know the way to go about finding the Common Core standards on the Department of Public Instruction website.
