I'm an energetic Middle School Teacher who specializes in Social Studies and Language Arts, but after helping my students with their homework during homebase and lunch, I'm pretty well-versed in every subject! I have experience working with a wide-range of students with different backgrounds, strengths, and weaknesses, so I'm ready and willing to take on any student as my own. Your success is my success, and I feel very strongly about being successful! Although I work primarily with adolescents, I feel confident that I can help you to achieve your goals, whatever your age may be. I will make every effort to keep our tutoring sessions positive, fun, and most importantly driven toward results!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a regular education teacher, I have voluntarily worked closely with the drafting and implementation of IEPs for students exhibiting a wide variety of academic, social, and behavioral disabilities, one of the most common of which being ADD/ADHD. I have also taken part in committees to observe and evaluate student behavior in order to aid in diagnosis. In working with both medicated and non-medicated students with symptoms of ADD, I have sought out and implemented classroom strategies to best engage these active learners. Through detailed observation and variation of instructional strategies, many students are actually able to decrease their use of medication or discontinue use altogether.
I earned an MEd in Middle Grades Education and passed the Praxis in both Social Studies and Language Arts. I feel confident that I can accurately prepare a future teacher for this test in order to ensure his or her certification.

I work frequently on not only what to study, but how to study. These study skills include flash recall of facts, broadening understanding of a concept, time management, and test preparation. The building of creative study guides should not stop at the preliminary note-taking stage. Content must come alive and provide interactive opportunities to be studied effectively. I will teach students how to make use of graphic organizers, songs, pictures, and even physical movements and exercises to study material in order to ensure success on tests and in the classroom.
