I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I have been a Montessori Elementary teacher for 15 years. I absolutely LOVE working with students - problem-solving, discovering, and bringing their interests alive. When a student is struggling, or need extra help/challenge in an area, it is my pleasure to sit down with them 1:1 and work through it. I've worked with a wide range of students, from Preschool through 6th grade. I work with parents and students to create tools that guide the student towards independence. My goal is to help build their confidence in order for them to reach their goals and feel successful. As a holistic educator, I recognize that each student learns differently and comes with their own set of strengths and challenges. I will help them find ways to learn their material in a way that best fits them.
I help students break down math problems into steps and we can develop hands on materials that can help them understand the mathematical concept conceptually. It is also important to guide the student towards understanding the application of concepts in real life situations.
Similar to math, using hands-on methods to gain understanding of grammar helps to apply concepts in their own writing. Also, analyzing the writing of others and connecting grammar to literature and across the curriculum makes it come alive.
I would love to engage with more students outside of my classroom! I learn just as much from students as they do from me. Let's learn and grow together! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, AMI Montessori Elementary Certificate (grades 1 - 6), 15 years teaching 1st - 6th grades.
