Winthrop University (Spanish)
Appalachian State University (Master's)
I'm a grad student at ASU in the Department of Languages, Literature & Cultures with 5 years of tutoring experience.
For students currently in any level of Spanish classes, I can provide tutoring, explanation of grammatical concepts, activities aimed at reinforcing language skills, and structured conversation, as well as a focus on general study skills and success within the course.
For those outside of school/university who maybe just want to brush up on or maintain their level of Spanish (or maybe reach a conversational level), I can provide constructive activities, overview of basic grammar, as well as real-world practice like ordering food in Spanish, shopping, writing, presentations, etc. The main focus, of course, will be conversation.
I have 4 years of math tutoring experience at Winthrop University Academic Success Center.
I'm a certified Level III International Tutor by the College Reading and Learning Association, as well as having a B.A. in Spanish and Political Science. I've been studying Spanish for 10 years now, and I have extensive experience tutoring within the university context. I believe that any approach to language learning must integrate grammatical and functional approaches, but the main focus should be meaningful communication.
I have 15 years of experience with piano and 3 years of tutoring experience with Simple Gifts in N. Charleston, SC.
If you or someone you know is interested, I'm offering the first session consultation at half-price per hour, so that we can discuss your specific needs and goals for tutoring. I prefer to meet at the ASU library, but can drive in certain circumstances within a 15-mile or so radius of Boone. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutored MATH 150 (Discrete math) at Winthrop University for 4 years at the WU Academic Success Center. The class covered introductory probability and statistics, set theory, etc. I think I really helped my students to succeed in that challenging freshman course.
