I love working with children, and have worked at Montessori schools in the past. My teaching approach is using the Montessori philosophy as well as using positive discipline principles. This would be my first time tutoring one-on-one but I have taught at Montessori pre-schools and I am an environmental educator.
I look forward to tutoring because I love working with children and assisting them with their quest for knowledge. As a child I struggled with math, and I know how it feels to fall behind. Tutoring is a way I can prevent other students from falling behind in this ever so competitive world.
I have taught reading to 3-6 year olds using methods that also work great for all ages. One of these methods is knowing the sounds of the letters, instead of the ABC song. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
