I have been teaching for 5 years, and I love it! I am currently working on my doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, and I am spending lots of time working with my professors to help make reading with the school system more successful. I am certified in elementary education, reading, and special education. I have taught both elementary school and secondary. and I feel comfortable teaching every grade from kindergarten through 8th.
I tailor my instruction to the student- I find the best books and create the best activities that motivate the students, and make them feel excited about learning. I focus on all aspects of reading, since they are all so important. I work on decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency and writing. My specialty is working with students who really struggle or really dislike reading- these are the students I have worked with tutoring for the past 3 years; I feel so passionate about helping them boost their confidence and feel success with their own skills. I have lots of experience working with students with autism in reading and study skills, and am also comfortable working with students who need to develop English skills.
I do not use store-bought worksheets or workbooks- my rate is $60 because I will create everything I do with the student from scratch, because no two students need the same reading instruction. I love doing what I do, and I am confident I can help your student be more successful inside and outside of the classroom! Please don't hesitate to email with any questions. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a special ed teacher for 3 years, I had students on my caseload that qualified for study skills. I was in charge of making plans for them based on their needs- organization, behavior, etc. I also worked for a year with 2 students at their home to get organized in study skills, helping them make the transition from school to home and back again with all of their materials organized and ready to turn in.
