About Zach

After escaping the the savage clutches of my native NYC, I retreated to the warm slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina like so many New Yorkers before me. While I continue to perform regularly in Asheville with various ensembles and develop my primary musical projects, I have been keenly focusing the aperture of intention behind my music. I have performed and recorded in various capacities with bands, ensembles and orchestras. My music has been featured by Pitchfork, SPIN, XLR8R, Tiny Mixtapes, The Fader, Ibiza Space Magazine, The 405, and more; and released on Styles Upon Styles, Blankstairs, South Fork Sound, Last Night On Earth and Slanted Black. In 2010, I launched an all-digital free-label specializing in undiscovered high-quality electronic music. It has featured such artists as Archie Pelago, Doctor Jeep, Create Her, and Woulg.

I received a BA in Music Theory and Composition and the first ever Thomas L. Read Prize in Composition from the University of Vermont. My area of expertise is composing for Small Chamber Ensembles and in the Electronic medium, using Ableton Live. Through my Music Theory training, I have a keen ear for harmony, I have developed relative pitch and I'm competent and fluent in Music Theory. My training also gave me a Western Classical Music History education and inspired me to learn more about the music that I am passionate about, Black American Music; Blues, Rock n Roll, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, House, Techno, etc.

Teaching Music Theory, Composition, Production and Music History is a joy for me, as I feel most aware and willing to learn more about them.

I'm always pleased to meet new students and strive to lead them to new skills and ideas.

Don't be shy! I'm excited to meet you and find how I can best serve you and your future in the world of music.
