I am passionate about education and making learning fun for my students. As a committed professional I strive for excellence and appreciate creative problem solving. In my classroom I create a respectful community where all students are encouraged to succeed. Learning is done together and all ideas are valued. Students realize their potential through engagement and collaboration with their peers. My role is to guide the process as we move forward together.
My relevant qualifications include an advanced degree, Masters of Arts in Teaching, and ten years classroom experience in a progressive, public school district dedicated to high achievement for both students and teachers. Cooperation, leadership and flexibility are cornerstones of my work ethic. Also of note is my extensive experience in international travel, marketing and professional development. My experience teaching and traveling through South East Asia provides great insight to me of the power of education to facilitate change and the importance of embracing a global exchange. I recognize the efficacy of technology to enhance educational opportunities and understand the importance of critical thinking and communication for success. Having a growth mindset has enabled me to continue to advance my course as well as the school district, companies, students, and colleagues I work with.
I have taught a variety of math curriculums and served on math committees and piloted math programs. I have created workshops directed at primary math education. Concepts taught included all topics in a grade 3-4 curriculum. Active participation through game playing and direct instruction offered teachers ways to create an inquiry-based classroom that incorporates cooperative learning and collaboration with each other and their students to encourage a love of learning mathematics. Workshops are built on a model of communication, collaboration, creativity and problem solving, the foundation of 21st Century Learning. I have experience teaching Eureka Math which is currently the most highly recognized new math programs being widely adopted by US schools.
I am an outstanding reading and writing teacher. I have consistent success with student outcomes in creating strong writing that reflects the individual's voice and unique perspective. I am equally successful at teaching reading for meaning and teaching students to reflect on their reading in a critical manner.
As a highly effective classroom teacher I am well versed in the elementary curriculum and Common Core Standards. I am competent to teach all grades and curriculum.
I have extensive experience in reading instruction and understand the reading progression from phonics to literary analysis.
I love learning and want to help students find their passion for learning. I appreciate the opportunity to work with students so that they can be successful especially when they are challenged or struggling. My goal is to see the light turn on in a student's eyes when they all of a sudden "get it". I am passionate about education and making learning fun for my students. As a committed professional I strive for excellence and appreciate creative problem solving. In my classroom I create a respectful community where all students are encouraged to succeed. Learning is done together and all ideas are valued. Students realize their potential
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
